London Underground services suspended due to explosions
For anyone is travelling in London today: The whole tube network has been shutdown as a result of explosions. Early reports suggest that this was due to a series of power surges. Reports indicate that this was a terrorist attack.

Update: The National Grid, which supplies power to the Underground, said there had been no problems with its system which could have contributed to the incidents.
Update: An explosion hit a double decker bus at London's Russell Square in the city center shortly after a major incident involving at least one explosion on the London Underground (Tube) in the Liverpool Street/Aldgate vicinity July 7. Officials are also reporting explosions on other buses in London, but details have not been confirmed.
Update: Scotland Yard confirmed one of several reports of explosions on buses in the city. PA also quoted union officials as saying sources had told them there had been at least one explosive device on the Underground.
Update: Hospitals have said they are no longer accepting non-emergency cases.
Update: Ministers are meeting to clarify the situation and the government will make a statement later, Leader of the House Geoff Hoon told the Commons.

Update: A reporter on Radio Five is saying that the mobile networks appear to be down, possibly due to the volume of traffic.
Update: There are reports that the mobile network shutdown is a precautionary action taken in case mobiles are used as trigger devices.

Update: The president of the European Parliament, Josep Borrell, blames terrorism for a "coordinated series of attacks" and "confirmed deaths"
Update: Tony Blair, at the G8 summit in Gleneagles, says there has been "a series of terrorist attacks in London… people have died and are seriously injured… It is reasonably clear this is designed and timed to coincide with the opening of the G8″. He says he will return to London within hours, but that the summit will continue without him
The Prime Minister has vowed that terrorists will not succeed in destroying "our values and our way of life".
Update: The bus network in Central London is closed as they're being used by the ambulance service as transport. The london transport is severely disrupted and Met Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair has told Londoners to "stay where you are".
Update: Latest figures are that there are 2 confirmed fatalities and more than 100 casualties though many of these are minor. London's police chief, Sir Ian Blair has urged people to stay where they were and not to call emergency services unless it was a life-threatening situation. The 999 emergency services have also announced that they're only responding to life-threatening situations.
Update: People travelling to and from the airports should be aware that the Heathrow Express and Gatwick Express train services have been suspended until further notice.

Update: The advice from the Metropolitan Police is for people to now begin their journeys home but to stagger them as far as possible. The Tube network will remain closed for the remainder of the day and buses in Zone 1 will resume gradually. River buses are operating a complimentary service. Kings Cross and Liverpool Street remain closed and services from other mainline stations are very limited.
