Gravatar.com down
Gravatars are currently not showing because of difficulties with Gravatar.com. What appears to have happened is that the gravatar.com domain name appears to have not been renewed, and is currently in "registrar hold" status.
A quick whois lookup returns the following:
Status: REGISTRAR-HOLD
Updated Date: 16-jul-2005
Creation Date: 15-jul-2004
Expiration Date: 15-jul-2006
I've sent an email to Tom Werner who manages the Gravatar project to give him a heads up but I'd imagine he's already aware of the issue. Hopefully, this will be resolved soon.
Update: Tom's on holiday in China till the 24th July.
Update: Elliott Back has a short term fix for this issue.
Update: Alan Bell has saved the day!

ruh-roh! :)
Of all the mundane details to forget…
Thinking about it I have not heard from him in months, I wonder where he has gone?
Doh!
I wondered what was going on.
That’s what happens when you depend on someone else’s service to provide graphically enhanced goodness for your own site!
Hope they’re back soon!
I spotted this last night after having just updated to the latest revision of TXP. I thought it was a bug or something but then I Googled for Gravatar, clicked on their link and was told they didn’t exist. Phew!! ;)
Would I be right in thinking this is a “Gentle Calm” re-style?

Looks like Tom is on vacation till the 24th of July. Hopefully he’ll still be able to renew the domain when he returns.
Can’t believe anyone would be lazy/cheap enough to not purchase a domain with that much traffic more than a year though.
It figures that as soon as I implement the first third-party service on my site that it would go down two days later.
Just replace gravatar.com with 64.124.231.223 in your files, and you’re good to go.
It looks like the ISP is web.com. I went to their website and invested $8.95 in renewing the domain. As of now nothing seems to have happened and I have no email confirming the order, but if it does work then someone owes me a beer!
that seems to have done the trick.

Gravatar appears to be down again, but this time the server won’t even respond to a ping!
