Fishermen catch 1100 pound tiger shark

Fishermen who hauled in a massive 1,100 pound tiger shark off Massachusetts this past weekend failed to capture first place in the monster shark derby on Martha's Vineyard.
The reason: The boat was six minutes too late in returning to Oak Bluffs harbor with its catch.
Somehow, I don't think they'll be too annoyed at missing out on first place.
Speed Demos Archive
SDA (Speed Demos Archive) is the home of speed runs done on many computer and console games. A speed run is a video of a player striving to complete a video game in as fast a time as they can manage.

British Police demand sweeping new powers to counter terrorists
Police last night told Tony Blair that they need sweeping new powers to counter the terrorist threat, including the right to detain a suspect for up to three months without charge instead of the current 14 days.
They also want to make it a criminal offence for suspects to refuse to cooperate in giving the police full access to computer files by refusing to disclose their encryption keys.
What I want to know is what happens if you don't have or if you've forgotten your private key? This seems to fly in the face of the right against self incrimination i.e. the right to silence.
AIMFight
I'm not a big fan of AIM (though Trillian makes it much more bearable) but AIMfight is interesting. It pits two AIM screennames against each other to see who is the better socially networked.
Update: You can make a query directly via the following:
http://aimfight.com/getFight.php?name1=SCREENAMEONE&name2=SCREENNAMETWO
Just substitute the appropriate values for SCREENAMEONE and SCREENNAMETWO. Might be useful if you want to do this programatically.

HP Fires Alan Kay
HP fires the legendary technology pioneer Alan Kay.
A founder of Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center, Kay, who once said, "The best way to predict the future is to invent it", was instrumental in the development of the windowing GUI and modern object-oriented programming.
He envisioned a laptop computer long before the first ones rolled out and his Smalltalk programming language was a predecessor to Sun Microsystems' Java.
